"There's no law....

that says you have to make a Mojo Card."  said my DH when I complained about the Tall and Skinny Mojo Sketch this week.  And he is absolutely right, as usual.  It's just how I like to start off my crafting week.  So here it is....

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidMeY5COvmHsVBe25tidgy1iTR5O7pn_zVwylF7WSu41VYu7tGTkLgM3iYyx-rSIAGA5sgktnAUy8gwLvoH1BCQef7nGC3YlXxYIFcO6qzB_vwboM68Izw1YMFzB41jpetltCu1TmnYvyW/s1600/Mojo352Sketch.gif

Believe it or not, by making this card tall and skinny it decreases the amount of available writing space on the card by 12.375 square inches.  That quite a bit.  And even though it still fits in an A2 envelope, a requirement for OWH, that 12.375 square inches could mean a lot to person writing home and/or the person anxiously awaiting news from a loved one deployed far away from home.  Which is why I made a few alterations before adding it to the OWH box.

Sentiment and layered ornament stamps are CTMH.

I am submitting this card to the following challenges:
613 Avenue Create Challenge #78 - Anything Goes (Congrats on reaching 600 followers!)
Addicted to Stamps Challenge #85 - Polka Dots
Opus Gluei Challenge #126 - All Tied Up (ribbon, twine, or string)
Robyn's Fetish Challenge #218 - Stripes or Dots
The Paper Players Challenge #202 - Tic Tac Toe (I'm using the top row: ribbon, blue, birthday)
Open Minded Challenge #13 - Patriotic Colors
Pumpkin Spice Challenge #77 - Red, White and Blue
Polkadoodles Challenge Week 26 - Red, White or Blue
The Stamping Boutique Challenge - Red, White and Blue  (Thanks for the freebie!)
Crafter's Cafe Challenge #69 - Polka Dots and Ribbon

Wishing everyone a blessed week!

Time Out

I've never played the Time Out Challenge before but this week it caught my eye.  The challenge was to case someone else's card, specifically Donna Mikasa's, and add a twist of your own.  Sounded like fun.

Here's Donna's card:

Here's my version:

First I embossed the off white background CS.  Next I rubbed stamp pads over it.  I embossed another piece of CS with the words and bees and lightly sponged it with the same colors as the BG.  Super simple.

I am adding this card to the other wonderful entries at TIME OUT Challenge #8.

And I think it is perfect for these other fun challenges:

Fly Catcher

Ain't that the truth!  But when those fly balls are hit hard and fast and long, it's only fun if your team is doing the hitting.  It's another baseball tournament weekend.  My grandson's first game was last evening and his team lost, badly.  Game number 2 is tomorrow morning.  If they win, they play again in the afternoon.  If they lose, they are done.

The image and sentiment on this card are from a set called Catching Flies from Deedee's Digis and can be found here.

This card is my entry in the following challenges:
Milk Coffee Challenge - Summer Fun
Cards in Envy Challenge - Fun in the Sun

While I'm on the subject of challenges and entries....

What do you, my fellow crafters, have against dinosaurs?  That's the theme of this week's Tuesday Throwdown Challenge.  As I type this, there are only 3 entries.  What's up with that?  Dinosaurs make great birthday cards for young and old.  They come in various shapes, sizes, colors.  I know there are lots of dinosaur stamps out there.  But where are the cards for Tuesday Throwdown???  You can have flowers on the cards.  You can make the dinos red, white and blue.  Dinos qualify as animals.  Make a baby card with a baby dino.  A dinosaur card can be entered in lots of challenges, especially this week's challenge at Tuesday Throwdown.  Did I mention the theme is dinosaurs?

Kinetic Pop Up Card

When I see a new card fold, I generally stop what ever I'm doing and give it a try.  Many times I just assemble the base and save the finishing touches for another day when I've decided to whom I'm sending the card and for what occasion.
I spied this card fold on the Joanna Sheen blog.  They were kind enough to direct viewers to an excellent tutorial, which you can find here.
I'm sure you recognize the image as a House Mouse stamp.  The pretty ribbon up the side is CTMH as is the 'You can never have too much happy' sentiment. (I wrote a personal message and signed the back of this, in case you were wondering.)  The other sentiment stamps are from Sparkle n Sprinkle.
Isn't it amazing what this swirly embossing folder did to a plain card base?

I am entering this anniversary card in the following challenges:
House-Mouse and Friends Monthly Challenge #172 - Die Cuts and/or Punches (I used a scalloped circle punch.)
Stampotique Designers Challenge #153 - Anniversary/Wedding/Love
Make My Monday Challenge - Anniversaries
Path of Positivity Challenge # 15 - Happiness  (Whether it be my own or someone else's, celebrating a wonderful marriage and all that goes with it, is happiness to me.)
Scrapbook Stamp Society Challenge #44 - Anything Goes, option: use swirls

By the way, if you read yesterday's post .....

Baby Boy Benjamin David arrived happy and healthy last evening.  The card I posted has been finished and is in the mail.

Anticipation....

: a feeling of excitement about something that is going to happen
: the act of preparing for something

My nephew and his wife are presently at the hospital having a baby boy.  I am waiting for the phone to ring so I can put the little fella's name on the card I just made.

Actually I made 2 cards, one for my nephew, his wife and new son (above) and another (below) with some of the extra pieces. I don't always have a defined plan when I start a card.  I began by just grabbing a piece of white cardstock off the table to stamp the baby carriage, a fun stamp from Sweet Stamps.  Then I decided to use this great plaid DP and frame the image in gray CS.  As an afterthought, I punched the corners, but then the white piece with image was too small.  I set that one aside, measured another piece of white CS and stamped the carriage a second time.  I went in search of some little plastic baby doodads I thought I had.  I couldn't find them; they might have gone on the card for the shower.  Instead, I decided to use these fun metal curlicues I found.
I embossed the background, wrapped it with ribbon and tied the bow, then added the 'congratulations' and image.

I started to tidy up my workspace a bit, which is when I decided I might as well do a second card.

It wasn't until after I had the second card front finished and was left with a small piece of plaid paper that the first card became an easel card.  I used the wheels and handle of the stamp to add a little design around the edge.
As soon as the phone rings with the happy news, vital statistics and, as yet, undisclosed name,  I'll print out
"Mom and Dad and Welcome (name inserted here)"
to add to the top of that small piece of leftover plaid.
Does anyone else make their cards in such a helter-skelter way?

Ah...  the phone!!!!
Sorry, only the septic guy returning my call.

In the meantime I will enter the easel card in the following:
Addicted to Stamps Challenge #101 - Anything Goes
The House that Stamps Built Challenge DCC#108 - Shaped or Fun Fold Card
Inky Impressions Challenge #165 - Anything Goes

Card Mania Challenge #49 - Babies
Crafting from the Heart Challenge 24 - Always Anything Goes
A Gem of a Challenge #122 -  for a child (baby)
We Do Doobadoo Challenge #8 - Ribbons

Still no word.  Guess I'll make dinner.

Tuesday Throwdown Dino-mite Challenge #201

The dinosaur digital images Tuesday Throwdown's Design Team B was given for this week's challenge were so much fun, I just couldn't help making multiple cards.  My grandson, Matthew, will love these friendly guys to give to his friends at birthday parties.  And I think the children in the hospitals to which Send a Smile 4 Kids supplies cards will enjoy them as well.
These digital images were provided to us by My Grafico, this week's sponsor.  You can check out their store here.

(I've paired the digis with CTMH sentiment stamps.)
I will be entering this 3rd card in these other fun challenges:

1 Pesty Cat = 1 Early Mojo

He doesn't really meow.  He makes this very annoying "aaat" sound, over and over and over.  And it's especially annoying at 4:30 am!  He jumps up on the bed, spreads out right next to me with his head rubbing the corner of the pillow and goes, "aaat, aaat, aaat".  If I roll over, he climbs to the other side, stepping on me  of course, and repeats the process, over and over, and over.  Sometimes he lets me fall asleep for 5 or 10 minutes.  But eventually he returns to his annoying "aaat, aaat, aaat".  If I pet him several minutes, he quiets down.  When I stop, he's back to "aaat, aaat, aaat".  I should have just responded to the initial, "aaat, aaat, aaat" by getting out of bed and letting him outside.  But by the time I did, I was thoroughly awake.  There might have been a slim chance or returning to sleep, had I not sneaked a peek at today's Mojo Sketch.  Then the wheels start turning and next thing I know.... I'm cutting paper.

Lately, when I don't need a card for something specific, I try to make an "Any Hero" card for Operation Write Home using the Mojo Monday Sketch.

Great Impressions is having a great blog hop this month to support OWH and a sketch challenge of their own.  Since I was up early, I had time to make 2 "Any Hero" cards this morning and do their blog hop.

This is the OPW sketch I followed.
If you ever need a sketch, OPW has hundreds on their blog and all with measurements.

Scribble and Scrap GDT Spot

Today I have a more vintage card to show you.

This card features a photo from one of Scribble and Scrap's vintage photo sheets and was made for a Guest Design Spot on their challenge blog.

I've added some lace, distressing, corner punching, and old, old buttons from the button jar, a sheer ribbon bow and then added a conversation bubble from a CTMH stamp set.
Hope you like the card and you check out the Scribble and Scrap store and this week's challenge.

This card is also my entry for these challenges:
Craftitude Challenge #67 - Use flowers and/or lace
Digitally Sweet Challenge #93 - Transport
Crafter's Cafe Challenge #68 - Distress It
Clear It Out Challenge - Anything Goes, Stash Item: Anything Goes  (Everything is from my stash.)

Today I'm going to dig a hole to plant a corkscrew willow tree at my mother's.  Sounds like an adventure to me!

Animal Cards 4 Kids

Wow!
It's a shame I was asked to be a Guest Designer for the current Send a Smile 4 Kids Challenge because the sponsors are offering some fabulous prizes: The Cutting Cafe' (3 sets of digis or cutting files), Oak Pond Creations (3 digis of winners choice) and Inspired by Stamping ($15 gift certificate).
The challenge theme is Animal Cards 4 Kids.  How easy is that!
I've used an Oak Pond Creations digi image and my own sentiment to make this card.

I used my granddaughter's dachshund, Romeo, as inspiration for the coloring, a combination of markers and pencils.  You should see how protective of my great-granddaughter that yappy dog is.  He positively annoying!  But he runs if you bark back at him.

Please consider sending some of your extra kid, pre-teen, and teen cards (esp. for boys) to Send a Smile 4 Kids.  They are given to children in the hospitals to help lift their spirits and encourage them while they are ill.  All the details are on the Send a Smile 4 Kids blog right here.

Since I can't enter this in the Send a Smile 4 Kids Animal Card Challenge
I'll submit this card to these other great challenges:
Brown Sugar Challenge #99 - Dots and/or Stripes
Sister Act Card Challenge #62 - Anything Goes
The Stamping Boutique Challenge #22 - Card for a Child
Loves Rubber Stamps Challenge #108 - Spots and Dots
Sentimental Sundays Challenge #211 - Animals

Who needs a paddle? Imagine That!

There's only one more full week in the month of June.  It's hard to believe.   I was so organized at the beginning of the month, with one list of challenge cards I needed to make and another of birthday and anniversary cards I needed to send.  I don't want to post any cards that I haven't sent yet.   But I don't want to miss any challenge deadlines either.   This card, using digis from the Imagine That! Poolside Penguins set, is for Imagine That's June Progressive Challenge  and isn't specifically intended for anyone.  That makes it safe to post.  It will go in either the Send a Smile 4 Kids box or the Operation Write Home box.

While I'm at it, I'll also enter this cool bird in the following challenges:
Creative Corner Challenge - Summertime
Delightful Challenges - Hello Friend
Jellypark Friday Challenge - Seaside
Cute Card Thursday Challenge #326 - By the Sea

That's all for today.  Tomorrow I'll be Guest Designing for the Send a Smile 4 Kids Challenge Blog.

Doodle Pantry Hits a Home Run

Before I show you the card I made for Doodle Pantry's June Challenge, I thought you might like to see the cards I made this afternoon at Joyce's CTMH Card Workshop.  She's very excited about going to the CTMH convention next week and seeing the new products and catalog.  This week we were using some of the products that CTMH is soon retiring, ie washi tape patterns, ribbon roses, wood trinkets, on the cards below:

************************************************

Make It Manly is the theme for June's
I've used the Doodle Pantry Baseball Birdie image and sentiment which is available here.
The set includes colored and outline images, digital papers and several sentiments.

Besides the Doodle Pantry Challenge, I am entering this card in these challenges, too....
Milk Coffee Challenge - Summer Fun
Seize the Birthday Challenge - Anything Goes
Creative Moments Challenge #45 - Anything Goes/For the Boys
Inky Impressions Challenge #164 - For the Boys
Scrappers Delights Challenge #25 - Anything Goes + Twist: Get Sentimental

Clear It Out Challenge #17 - Anything Goes + Stash Item: Anything Goes (Everything was from my stash, leftover from my grandson's memory box or my Red Hat class.)
Die Cuttin' Divas Challenge #170 - Things with Wings (I've used a Spellbinder's die for the sentiment piece.)
Shopping Our Stash Challenge # 156- Use your oldest punch or die.  (This was the first die I bought along with a set of scalloped ovals.  Both sets are still the ones I use most often.)

Time to get dinner started.
TTFN

Time is not on my side.

I have just one hour to get ready for Joyce's CTMH card worshop.  My DH thinks I'll end up going in my PJ's since I've been busy making, photographing, and getting blogposts ready for my DT and GDT spots all morning garbed comfortably.

Although it is not unusual to see people in our WalMart or grocery stores in their PJ's and slippers,  I am not ready to join that eclectic group.  Therefore, I shall return later today with a card for your perusal.   See you then.

Super Birdbrain

is the name of the free digi set for June's Stamp of the Month Challenge at From the Heart.  I decided to use the birthday sentiment since Father's Day is over.
The image was colored first with markers and then the bird got a coating of glitter too.  I think the aqua blue holographic paper framing the sentiment and image shows up much better to the naked eye.

This card is being submitted to the following challenges:
From the Heart Stamps June Challenge - Super Birdbrain
Hobbybook Designer Challenge - For Dad/Male
Cuttin and Stampin Challenge June 14-24 - Birthdays
Too Cute Ink Challenge #108 - Birthdays

It's a great day for pink lemonade!

Do you know what NBUS is?

One of the fun things I get to do as a member of Tuesday Throwdown's Design Team is to visit the blogs of crafters who enter our weekly challenge.  In doing so, I meet lots of bloggers, see and learn interesting things, and make some fabulous friends.  Yesterday I learned what NBUS is.  It is a wonderful philosophy of crafting and I decided to join in today with my Mojo Monday post.

I really love the way this turned out.
The NBUS on the card are the CTMH image and sentiments and the pleated satin ribbon.

Have you figured out what NBUS is?
I'm headed over to Darnell's blog, djkardkreations, to enter this card in her challenge.  You can read all about it there.  And take a moment to visit her playhouse.  I so want one!

 Never-Before-Used-Schtuff (Stamps, Dies, EFs, etc.)

What a beautiful day for 1, 2, 3 Ball Games!

My grandson is playing in another baseball tournament this weekend.  It was supposed to start last evening, but everything was too wet from a late afternoon gully washer.  So we were at the ball field at 8 am this morning to cheer on a great group of 9 yr olds.  Our boys won their first game.  I'm sure it was more due to their skill than our presence.  The next game is at 2 pm, and the third is at 6pm.  If they win at least 2 of the games, they'll be playing again tomorrow.  Luckily, we only live 10 minutes from this week's tournament location (sometimes we have almost an hour's drive) and can run home in between games to get a few things done i.e. my blog post.

Perhaps this morning's ump could have used a second cup of coffee between innings.  (He struck poor Timmy out on 3 balls which he couldn't have hit if his arm was 12 inches longer.  Our grandson, Nick, pitched 2 good innings and got 2 real nice hits.)  Hence, I am dedicating this card to the umpire of game #1, which CP won despite some erratic calls.

For this CAS card I've used a old digi image from Dude Time Doodles colored with markers, wrote my own sentiment and printed it on the computer.  Then, I just added some faux stitching.

I'm putting this card up to bat at the following challenges, hoping I don't strike out today:
Creative Corner Challenges -  Just for Boys
Delicious Doodles Challenge #92 - Stitch It
Moving Along with the Times Challenge - Keep it Clean and Simple
Try it on Tuesday Challenge - One for the Boys
Incy Wincy Design Challenge - Faux Techniques (stitching)

We're headed back to the ball park now.  Have a great day!

House Mouse Birthday Card

Eight cards on the table in various stages of completion
and none of them would work for a birthday card.
This afternoon I have a hairdresser appointment so I can continue to look like a young Great Grandmother.  Sunday is her birthday so I really should take her a birthday card.  And I should get a card in the mail for another stamping friend who also has a birthday Sunday and who adores House Mouse.  I checked the theme for the current challenge at House Mouse (Lots of Layers), and got busy making this card x 2.
The image was stamped with StazOn and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  I used markers to color it.  Papers are from bits and pieces of 2 different paper pads.  Beneath the image is a big hole because both the pink strip and banner papers weren't long enough to go all the way across.  The corner pieces were cut with a Spellbinders Die and the pearls are Spellbinders Nestabling.

Today's Challenges include:
House Mouse and Friends Monday Challenge #171 - Lots of Layers
Inky Impressions Challenge #163 - For the Girls
Penny's Paper Crafty Challenge #181 - Anything Goes
Scrapper's  Delights Challenge #24 - Anything Goes/ Twist: Layer it up
Creative Colours Challenge #12 - Use Layers + Photo Colors

Too Cute Ink Challenge #108 - Birthday
Bunny Zoe's Crafts June Challenge - Layers
Crafting From the Heart Challenge #22 - Anything Goes
Sparkle n Sprinkle June Challenge - Anything Goes (I've used embossing powder on the image.)
Pile It On Challenge #23 - Use Patterned Paper

Send a Smile 4 Kids Challenge - For the Girls
Totally Gorjuss Challenge #239 - Embossing (I've used wet and dry embossing.)

Yesterday I started working on a kinetic pop-out card.  Can't wait to finish it and show you.

Negatives

(Sentiment stamp, twill ribbon, and durables are CTMH.)
This birthday card is for my BFF's son, who has just finished his second year of college.  That's so hard to believe.
With a piece of off white paper behind the kraft paper negative, it gives the appearance of having a tag on the card.  That's why I save my negatives.  Oh heck, I save everything.

This card is my entry for these challenges:
Really Reasonable Ribbon Challenge #96 - Masculine with ribbons or trims.
Oldie but a Goodie Challenge - Father's Day/Masculine
(The twill ribbon is several years old.  I keep forgetting to use it.)
Time 4 Scrap Challenge #41 - Anything Goes
The Kraft Journal Challenge #175 - Just For Him
Crafting When We Can Challenge #71 - Leftovers
I'm hoping tomorrow is a sunnier day so I can take some photos of the cards we made yesterday at Joyce's CTMH card workshop.  Today was much better for cleaning out my closet and baking.  It smells so good in here.

Tuesday Throwdown Challenge #199

This week's theme at Tuesday Throwdown is 'For a Special Man' and is sponsored by Fred She Said.
I've chosen a FSS digi image called
Nolan and the Bullfrog for my Design Team card.

(Happy Father's Day is a CTMH stamp)
The socks, shoes, shirt and shorts are paper pieced.  Using a marker, I added some more color to the shirt and shoes for shading.  I fussy cut the bullfrog and Nolan's arm and popped them up.  The tiny tag was hand cut, written with a marker, punched, and tied to the frog's leg with some CTMH waxy flax.  The sentiment and tiny flies are both CTMH stamps.
I hope you'll hop over to the Tuesday Throwdown Blog to see what my other creative teammates have made to inspire you and then enter something to inspire us.

Below are some more Masculine/Father's Day/ Special Guy/Male/Men/Boys
challenges that I'll be entering with this card:

Deedee's June Digi Set

Life's a Beach is the name of the June Digi set that I received free for participating in the May Challenge.  This set is so great for the summer.  Thanks so much, Deedee.  I've paired one of the images up with today's Mojo Monday Sketch #349 to make this card to enter in Deedee's June Challenge:

I also wanted to enter this card in a few more of my favorite challenges:
For the Girls Challenge at Send a Smile 4 Kids
Use a Digi Challenge #88 at Glitter n Sparkle
Anything Goes with a Sentiment Challenge #210 at Sentimental Sundays
Hit the Beach June Challenge at One  Sweet Challenge
Ribbons and Bows Challenge at Di's Digi Designs
All for the Girls Challenge #91 at Digitally 'Sweet' Challenge
Anything Goes #60 at Sister Act Card Challenge
Anything Goes at Stampin for the Weekend
Perfect in Pink Challenge at Paper Crafting Journey

Well, I'd best go clean up my mess from preparing for and teaching yesterday's Red Hat class.
Did you want to see the cards?

The first 3 cards all used digi images custom made for me by Sami Stamps and can now be found in her shop right here.  The 3rd hat digi has feathers on it which you don't see here.  I wanted red hats for on the 3rd card, so I printed them on red paper and white paper.   I fussy cut the hat from the red paper, then fussy cut the hat band and flower from the white, but the feather was just too hard to fussy cut.  This card has 1" purple feathers which I cut on the cricut using the CTMH Artiste cartridge.

The 4th card has a stamped image by Rubber Cottage which I found on sale at the last show I attended. And I love the feather embossing folder I found at Paper Wishes.  When I got finished using the pearl head pin to place the red gems along the edge, I just added it to the hat.

The Red Hatters were very happy to take home this set of cards in the card tote shown in my previous post.

I think I'm ready

Tomorrow I'm teaching a card class to a new group of Red Hatters.  Normally I am packing bags late the night before a class.  Well, check this out....  The bags are packed.  Each holds the pieces to make 4 different Red Hat cards.

(On my computer half the bags are showing up blue, but they are actually purple.)
(Here is a closeup of the little clothespin magnets I made to close the bags)
And the ladies will each get one of these card totes in which to put their cards.

It's a simple card holder to make, one 12x12 sheet of paper and a few folds, and holds several cards in both the front and back pockets.

I'll show you the cards another day.
For now I am entering the totes with tag (a CTMH stamp) in the following challenges:
